2005 Chevrolet Silverado Transmission Repair | Charlotte NC

The transmission in your 2005 Chevy Silverado delivers power from the engine to the drive wheels. It essentially converts linear motion from the engine to rotational force through a planetary gear system. Here at Twin Automotive, we've seen most transmission problems in the 2005 Silverado can be caused by chronic low transmission fluid levels.

If your 2005 Chevy Silverado was used extensively for towing, it would not be uncommon for your Silverado's clutch in the torque converter to fail. Check this by shifting the transmission into gear while driving and check for any transmission slipping out of gear.

Common 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Transmission Problems include:
* Loud lunge when accelerating from a stop
* Whining gear noise
* Slips when going into reverse
* Check engine light is on

Additional 2005 Cheverolet Transmission Problems:

•Some Silverado transmissions may have difficulty getting out of third gear and may be caused by a faulty shift solenoid

Jerking
•The Silverado's automatic transmission may have problems shifting from first to second gear with a hard jerking

Continuing Forward
•On some occasions while the transmission is cold, the Silverado may experience surging after the brakes are applied, forcing the driver to put the vehicle in neutral.

How to check the Transmission fluid in your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado:

•Start the Silverado's engine and wait until the needle on the water temperature gauge is in the middle of the gauge.

•Open the hood and remove the loop-handled dipstick that sits behind the engine. This is the transmission dipstick. Pull the dipstick straight up and out of the transmission filler neck.

•Wipe off the transmission dipstick and push it all the way back down into the filler neck.

•Pull the dipstick back out and check the fluid level. The transmission fluid level should be between the upper and lower marks on the end of the dipstick

If the fluid smells burnt, this is a dead give away that there is a serious problem in your Silverado's transmission. If the fluid is low, you need to bring your Silverado down for a transmission service. Transmission fluid helps lubricate your transmission. A transmission usually will not show any effects of low transmission fluid unless the level is down at least a quart. At that point, it may begin showing some transmission problems and symptoms like gears slipping, rough shifting, engagement delay, shifting delay and ultimately the deterioration of transmission components which causes major damage to the transmission itself. Overfilling the transmission with too much transmission fluid can also cause damage to your Silverado.

Twin Automotive, Charlotte's Transmission King, repairs all types of transmissions, makes and models. For a quote on your transmission repair, transmission rebuild, or transmission fluid flush, or to make an appointment for service, please contact us at 704-821-3460.

Was driving down the road. stopped at red light. Would not move. Just coasted like in neutral. Turned key off and turned back on. It drove normal. Stopped, and it acted up again. 05 Silverado 1/2 ton 4x4

Question: I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado (love this truck!) and for the past few weeks now, it seems like the transmission is wanting to shift up/down a little too early. Any ideas? I was thinking it could be the fluid level, but I had no idea on how to check the fluid level until I just read the article above on this page. I have a question on checking the fluid level though. On the transmission itself, do you leave it in park while the engine warms up to normal operating tempeture? Or do you put it in neutral and set the parking brake? Just want to make sure I get an accurate reading.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2005 silverado 1500.My problem started when I stopped at a stop sign and when I took off it shifted hard from 1-2 and 2-3,and the check engine light came on.The next day it worked fine then about a month later the same thing happened. I was wondering if it was something electrical since it doesn't do it all the time.

I have a 2007 1500 classic and just today it seems to shift from first into second, then makes a slight lunge after the shift. Transmisson otherwise works great. Also in 4wd, makes a slight growl at about 40. any suggestions?

I have a 04 chevy silverado with 130 000 miles I noticed that the transmission was shifting hard from 1-2 and would slip when it shifted from 2-3 I told my friend about it who is a mechanic and he unplugged the mass air flow sensor and told me to try it the shifting was perfect so I changed the mass air flow sensor because if you don't it eats gas like a locomotive but now it's fine
